Job Title : US Mortgage Underwriter
Job description : TCS is hiring for a Mortgage Underwriter role in Pune / Gandhinagar. The candidate will be responsible for end-to-end mortgage underwriting and quality control of closed loan files. The role involves reviewing credit decisions, analyzing income and employment, credit strength, property appraisal, DTI, LTV, supporting documentation, and ensuring mortgage applications comply with lender, investor, and applicable government guidelines.
Location : Pune / Gandhinagar, Gujarat
Experience : 6–12 yrs

Key Responsibilities
- Perform quality checks on closed mortgage loan files.
- Review credit decisions and ensure compliance with underwriting policies and guidelines.
- Analyze income, employment, credit strength, property appraisal, DTI, and LTV.
- Validate loan applications against lender, investor, and government agency guidelines.
- Assess risk involved in approving mortgage loans.
- Identify and mark errors or deficiencies in loan files.
- Verify employment documents, down-payment/reserve sources, appraisal values, and property title commitments.
- Review legal documents for accuracy and completeness.
- Identify mortgage insurance (MI) requirements and follow applicable MI guidelines.
- Maintain required service-level standards and underwriting deadlines.
- Support new-hire training and provide floor support.
- Perform internal quality checks and provide feedback to team members.
- Respond to emails efficiently and maintain timely communication.
- Work collaboratively with the team to resolve complicated underwriting issues.
Qualifications :
- 6–12 years of conventional mortgage underwriting / QA / QC experience.
- Strong knowledge of the complete mortgage loan cycle from beginning to end.
- Strong understanding of Desktop Underwriter (DU) and Loan Prospector (LP).
- Exposure to FNMA and FHLMC guidelines is an added advantage.
- Knowledge of Mortgage Insurance (MI) guidelines.
- Good knowledge of MS Office.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and multitasking skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Customer-focused and a good team player.
- Willingness to work in US/night shifts.
