Every call you interpret connects a US-based healthcare professional with a Cantonese-speaking patient, turning complex medical conversations into clear, accurate, and compassionate exchanges. What You’ll Do
Real-Time Interpretation
Provide meaning-for-meaning consecutive interpretation over live phone calls—no summarising, adding, or omitting details. You’ll render every message precisely in a first-person style to keep the conversation natural.
Navigate a wide range of healthcare scenarios: medical consultations, patient histories, insurance verifications, emergency triage, financial discussions, and emotional support situations.
Professional & Ethical Standards
Maintain a steady, professional tone, appropriate pace, and clear pronunciation, even when calls become stressful, emotional, or urgent.
Follow all interpreter protocols, confidentiality guidelines, and industry ethics. Remain neutral—you’ll never offer personal opinions, advice, or suggestions.
Build and continuously update your knowledge of medical terminology, healthcare services, insurance processes, and other OPI-specific use cases.
Remote Collaboration & Quality
Work independently from a quiet, private home workspace, while staying in regular contact with supervisors and your team.
Attend mandatory training, quality evaluations, coaching sessions, and feedback discussions. Use QA insights and supervisor input to constantly sharpen your performance.
Maintain reliable attendance, adhere to your schedule, and complete all assigned tasks on time.
Protect patient privacy and confidentiality at all times, fully complying with data protection requirements.
What You’ll Bring
Language Mastery
Strong fluency in Cantonese and advanced English (B2+/C1 level). You speak, read, listen, and comprehend both languages with confidence.
An ear for accents, cultural nuances, and varying speaking speeds—you adapt quickly.
Clear pronunciation and a professional communication style that puts both patients and providers at ease.
Interpretation Skills
Exceptional listening and memory retention. You capture complete messages and relay them accurately, with sharp attention to detail.
The ability to interpret accurately and completely, maintaining meaning-for-meaning fidelity across diverse call types.
Professional Traits
A calm, ethical, and unbiased demeanour. You make sound decisions within defined protocols and never impose your own views.
Resilience to handle sensitive, emergency, or high-pressure medical conversations without losing composure.
Self-discipline for a remote, night-shift role: reliable attendance, strong schedule adherence, and the ability to work independently.
What You’ll Need
Education: High School Graduate, SPM, Diploma, or Bachelor’s Degree.
Experience: 0–5 years. Freshers with excellent language skills and the right attitude are warmly welcome. Preferred backgrounds include interpretation, translation, healthcare, customer service, contact centres, BPO, media, or journalism.
Must be fluent in Cantonese and English; Mandarin is a plus.
Comfortable working a permanent night shift (9:00 PM–6:00 AM or 10:00 PM–7:00 AM, Monday–Friday).
A stable internet connection and a quiet, private workspace are essential.
Compensation & Benefits
Basic Salary: RM 4,000 – RM 4,500 (negotiable up to RM 5,000 based on experience and profile).
Wi-Fi Allowance: RM 150 per month.
Night Shift Allowance: RM 25 per night (~RM 550 monthly, based on 22 working days).
Performance Incentive: Additional earnings tied to your results.
Total all-inclusive monthly earnings: RM 5,000+.
Contract: 6 months + 12 months renewable, offering stability and growth.
Work Environment
This is a 100% work-from-home role on a permanent night shift, Monday–Friday (Saturday–Sunday off). The sensitive nature of healthcare calls demands complete focus, privacy, and a quiet environment. You’ll receive the training and support needed to excel in a remote setting, but you must be self-motivated and disciplined to thrive.
