Mortgage Underwriter

Location: Pune / Gandhinagar
Experience: 6–12 Years in Mortgage Underwriting Domain
Shift: US Shifts
Band: BPO 2 / 3 / 4
Salary: Up to ₹12 LPA

Job Description

The Mortgage QC Underwriter will be responsible for performing quality checks on closed loan files and ensuring that underwriting decisions comply with lender, investor, and government guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

Analyze income, employment, credit strength, property appraisal, Debt-to-Income (DTI), Loan-to-Value (LTV), and other critical mortgage-related information.
Validate that loan applications adhere to lender guidelines, Freddie Mac/Fannie Mae requirements, and applicable government regulations.
Assess risk involved in approving loans and determine acceptability to the lender.
Identify and mark deficiencies or errors observed in loan files.
Verify supporting documents such as employment proofs, source of down payment/reserves, appraisal reports, and title commitments.
Review legal documents to ensure completeness and accuracy.
Identify Mortgage Insurance (MI) requirements and follow MI guidelines where applicable.

Additional Responsibilities

Maintain service level standards and underwriting timelines
Support new-hire training activities
Perform internal quality checks and provide floor support
Respond efficiently to emails and stakeholder queries
Ensure adherence to process quality and compliance standards

Required Skills & Experience

Minimum 6–12 years of conventional mortgage underwriting / QA / QC experience
Strong understanding of the complete loan cycle
Hands-on knowledge of Desktop Underwriter (DU) and Loan Prospector (LP)
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to multitask and work across multiple systems/screens
Flexible to work in US/night shifts
Proficiency in MS Office
Strong attention to detail and customer-focused mindset
Good interpersonal and team collaboration skills

Qualifications

Essential:

Graduates with a minimum of 24–36 months of US Mortgage Underwriting experience

Preferred:

Exposure to FNMA and FHLMC guidelines
Knowledge of Mortgage Insurance (MI) guidelines
