Lead End-to-End ANZ Payroll Operations 

Are you a seasoned Payroll Leader with deep expertise in Australia & New Zealand (ANZ) Payroll, payroll governance, compliance, and team leadership? We are looking for an experienced Payroll Lead to manage end-to-end payroll operations for global clients while driving operational excellence, compliance, and continuous process improvement.

What You'll Do

As a Payroll Lead, you'll oversee end-to-end payroll delivery, ensure compliance with ANZ payroll regulations, manage client relationships, and lead a team responsible for delivering accurate and timely payroll services.

End-to-End Payroll Operations

  • Lead end-to-end payroll processing, including:

    • Pre-Payroll Activities

    • Payroll Processing

    • Post-Payroll Activities

  • Ensure accurate and timely payroll execution across weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly, and monthly payroll cycles.

  • Perform complex payroll calculations, including:

    • Gross-to-Net Calculations

    • Overtime Payments (OTP)

    • Termination Payments

    • Arrears

    • Retro Pay

    • Tax Balance Adjustments

  • Validate payroll outputs to ensure employees receive accurate, on-time payments with no overpayments or underpayments.

Payroll Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure compliance with ANZ payroll legislation, tax regulations, superannuation lodgements, and statutory reporting requirements.

  • Support year-end payroll processing, reconciliations, tax validations, and regulatory submissions.

  • Maintain strong payroll governance through process controls, audits, and quality assurance.

  • Ensure compliance with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley) controls and internal audit requirements.

Payroll Reporting & Financial Support

  • Prepare payroll reports, forecasts, reconciliations, and management dashboards.

  • Support Finance teams with payroll accounting, reporting, and statutory requirements.

  • Monitor payroll KPIs, SLAs, and operational performance metrics.

  • Present payroll performance and continuous improvement initiatives to clients and senior leadership.

Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Build trusted relationships with onshore clients and business stakeholders.

  • Manage payroll escalations and provide timely, effective resolutions.

  • Conduct regular business review meetings and present operational updates.

  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, Compliance, and external payroll partners to ensure seamless payroll delivery.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop payroll professionals to achieve operational excellence.

  • Manage workforce planning, productivity, utilization, and performance.

  • Drive cross-training, knowledge sharing, and capability development within the payroll team.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Process Improvement & Transition Management

  • Lead Due Diligence (DD), Knowledge Transfer (KT), transition, and ramp-up activities for new payroll engagements.

  • Identify operational risks and develop mitigation plans.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using business excellence methodologies, including FMEA.

  • Support payroll automation and process optimization initiatives.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in any discipline.

  • 10–12 years of experience in Payroll Operations with significant experience supporting the Australia & New Zealand (ANZ) region.

  • Strong expertise in:

    • Oracle HCM (Mandatory)

    • Workday

    • SAP

    • MYOB

    • Timekeeping Systems

  • Extensive knowledge of:

    • ANZ Payroll Processing

    • Payroll Taxation

    • Superannuation

    • Payroll Compliance

    • Payroll Accounting

  • Proven experience managing:

    • Weekly

    • Bi-Weekly

    • Semi-Monthly

    • Monthly Payrolls

  • Strong understanding of:

    • Hire-to-Retire (H2R) Processes

    • HR Administration

    • Payroll Accounting

    • Employee Data Management (EDM)

  • Experience supporting SOX audits and internal compliance reviews.

  • Hands-on experience leading process transitions, Due Diligence (DD), Knowledge Transfer (KT), and project ramp-ups.

  • Excellent communication skills with experience managing onshore clients via phone and virtual meetings.

  • Strong leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
