Physical Security Systems SME – OnGuard / Genetec | Senior IT Engineering Role

POSITION SUMMARY

The IT Application Engineer will lead the deployment, upgrade, maintenance, and modernization of enterprise Physical Security Applications, with primary responsibility for Lenel OnGuard and growing technical ownership of Genetec Security Center as Chevron transitions toward a hybrid OnGuard/Genetec operating model over the next 3–4 years.

The role supports Access Control, Video Management, Visitor Management, Badge Management, Alarm Monitoring, and related identity workflows. It ensures system integrity, scalability, cybersecurity compliance, and operational continuity while collaborating with security operations, IT infrastructure, vendors, and business stakeholders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Deploy, upgrade, and maintain Lenel OnGuard applications across global facilities while supporting the transition to Genetec Security Center.

• Configure and support hybrid OnGuard/Genetec architecture, including servers, databases, application services, clients, and third-party integrations.

• Provide hands-on engineering support for access control, alarm monitoring, video management, badge/visitor workflows, and related security applications.

• Maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, upgrade procedures, migration dependencies, and operational runbooks.

• Collaborate with security operations, infrastructure, database, networking, identity, cybersecurity, and vendor teams.

• Perform system health checks, troubleshooting, service validation, log reviews, and root-cause analysis to maintain high availability.

• Recommend system enhancements, integration improvements, automation, and application rationalization to improve stability and support Genetec adoption.

• Identify opportunities to transition legacy security functions into Genetec suites, including Synergis, Omnicast, Mission Control, ClearID, Data Exporter, Operations Center, AutoVu, and Sipelia.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

1. Lenel OnGuard Expertise

• Strong understanding of OnGuard architecture, including Communication Server, Application Server, SQL Database, OpenAccess API, DataConduIT, alarm monitoring clients, and enterprise administration.

• Experience with OnGuard Version 8.2 or later, including web modules, RESTful APIs, cloud-readiness, client packaging, and upgrade planning.

• Ability to configure alarm priorities, escalation paths, event-to-action rules, graphical maps, reports, card formats, badge types, permission groups, cardholder options, access panels, access levels, areas, and intrusion panels.

• Ability to troubleshoot complex issues involving panels, communication servers, databases, network connections, clients, integrations, and security devices.

2. Genetec Security Center Expertise

• Working knowledge of Genetec Security Center architecture and unified physical security applications.

• Understanding or hands-on experience with:

  • Synergis: Access control, alarms, and hardware management.

  • Omnicast: Video management, monitoring, playback, and analytics.

  • Mission Control: Incident management, event correlation, and response automation.

  • ClearID: Physical identity, access-rights, and visitor management.

  • Data Exporter: Data extraction, analytics, and reporting integrations.

  • Operations Center: Operational tasks, maintenance, investigations, and dispatch coordination.

  • AutoVu: License plate recognition and vehicle tracking.

  • Sipelia: SIP-based intercom, audio/video communication, and door control.

• Familiarity with Genetec Security Desk, web and mobile clients, and platform rollout planning.

3. Database Management

• Proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server, including backup, restoration, query review, performance analysis, and disaster recovery.

• Experience with database resiliency and optimization using mirroring, AlwaysOn Availability Groups, maintenance jobs, and backup validation.

• Understanding of data retention, reporting, and integration requirements across OnGuard and Genetec.

4. Operating Systems & Networking

• Strong knowledge of Windows Server, IIS, service accounts, certificate management, scheduled tasks, and Active Directory.

• Experience with application deployment, packaging, patching, and server-side administration.

• Familiarity with TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, DNS, load balancing, firewall rules, and network segmentation.

• Ability to troubleshoot connectivity across servers, access panels, readers, cameras, intercoms, clients, and cloud-hosted components.

• Knowledge of TLS 1.2 or higher and enterprise cybersecurity standards.

5. Integration Skills

• Experience implementing DataConduIT and/or OpenAccess API integrations with HR, identity, reporting, and operational systems.

• Experience integrating badge printers, biometric devices, handheld devices, alarm panels, and access-control hardware.

• Familiarity with AlertEnterprise, Telaeris, Future Fibre Technologies, HID piuCLASS for TWIC, and HID Fargo Connect.

• Ability to support normalized data feeds, Power BI reporting, analytics, and dual-system data strategies during migration.

LEADERSHIP & SOFT SKILLS

• Ability to lead global deployments, upgrades, stabilization, and migration activities while managing timelines, dependencies, and risks.

• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, including root-cause analysis and sustainable problem resolution.

• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to leadership, security operations, and non-technical stakeholders.

• Effective collaboration with infrastructure, database, networking, cybersecurity, vendor, and business teams across multiple regions.

• Ability to operate as a hands-on technical SME while contributing to architecture, solution design, roadmap planning, and modernization strategies.

• Proactive approach to innovation, process optimization, system simplification, and operational risk reduction.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

• Lenel Certified Professional (LCP) or Lenel Certified Expert (LCE) preferred.

• Genetec Security Center certification or hands-on experience with Synergis, Omnicast, Mission Control, ClearID, or Security Desk preferred.

• Experience hosting enterprise security applications in cloud or hybrid environments, particularly Azure or comparable platforms.

• Experience supporting enterprise physical security environments involving access control, video management, alarm monitoring, visitor workflows, integrations, and reporting.

• Ability to support OnGuard/Genetec coexistence through documentation, knowledge transfer, stabilization, migration planning, and operational readiness.
