Role Summary
The Compliance & Ethics Counsel Specialist – Data Privacy will support the implementation and continuous improvement of the global data privacy program. The role will conduct privacy reviews and assessments, provide guidance on data privacy requirements, support data subject rights and regulatory inquiries, and collaborate with internal stakeholders and external counsel.
The position will also contribute to process improvements, privacy research, project management, policy administration, and preparation of updates, guidance, and training materials for leadership and business teams.
Key Responsibilities
Draft, design, align, and improve compliance processes and templates related to data privacy laws and regulatory requirements.
Coordinate with stakeholders to understand process requirements and provide appropriate guidance.
Act as a project manager for new privacy initiatives and improvements to existing processes.
Conduct privacy assessments, including country risk assessments, privacy reviews, and Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs).
Support ventures and acquisitions due diligence activities and policy administration.
Draft, review, and assist in negotiating data privacy schedules and contractual arrangements.
Monitor legal and regulatory developments and global data privacy trends and assess their impact on business operations.
Prepare internal guidance, communications, training materials, and support documents.
Support responses to data subject access requests and other individual rights requests.
Identify potential data privacy risks and escalate issues appropriately.
Develop and deliver training for Legal and other business functions on privacy processes and regulatory requirements.
Support understanding and application of Compliance, Operations, Regulatory & Ethics (CORE) requirements.
Build effective relationships with internal stakeholders and Legal teams.
Support senior data privacy counsels in operational and advisory matters.
Provide Tier 1 support for data privacy inquiries and escalate complex issues when required.
Contribute to process flows, metrics, and continuous process improvement initiatives.
Educational Requirements
Law Degree is mandatory.
Required Skills & Experience
Law degree with 3–4 years of experience in data privacy.
Strong understanding of global data privacy regulatory principles.
Experience conducting privacy assessments, country risk assessments, privacy reviews, and/or DPIAs.
Understanding of contractual principles related to drafting, reviewing, and negotiating data privacy schedules.
Experience supporting ventures and acquisitions due diligence activities is preferred for applicable roles.
Strong stakeholder management skills, including interaction with senior leadership.
Excellent English communication, writing, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Strong legal research skills, including the ability to use GenAI tools effectively.
Ability to understand and design process flows and metrics.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
Power BI knowledge is an advantage.
Sound judgment in applying company policies, identifying risks, and escalating issues appropriately.
Strong analytical, organizational, time-management, and prioritization skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
IAPP certification such as CIPP/E or a similar data privacy certification is an advantage.
